Completed in 2014, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources constructed a reef in the Milwaukee River, just downstream of the former North Avenue Dam, to restore spawning habitat for native fish. Currently, this area has the most diversity of fish species in the lower portion of the Milwaukee River.
